For our 4 year anniversary, I knew I wanted to go somewhere memorable together but I didn't want to be alone in the decision making! I created a pamphlet that started with a picture of us and a plane. It said "you choose". When they opened the pamphlet, it was separated into 3 columns, each individually describing places to go.
The first option said "Live like Chuck and Blair in NYC", and if you've seen Gossip Girl, you know exactly what I'm talking about. I was going to book a stay at the Empire Hotel that Chuck Bass owns in the show. I had "forced"him (his words) to watch the entirety of Gossip Girl and for a while that was our show. He eventually got into it and we talked about the characters like we knew them - LOL! I included possible dates for a trip that would give us a long weekend away.
The second option was to go about an hour and a half south-east of us, to a very luxurious spa. Offerings of a couples massage and daily breakfast and champagne were tempting. The spa had a hotel attached to it and it is in a small town right on a lake. The view is beautiful and very relaxing. We could spend a night or two here and walk in town during the day. There were tons of local shops to check out.
The third option was to visit my sister and brother in law in San Diego. The plus side about this trip was that they have a wonderful guest bedroom and their town house is located right by an expressway. Amazing food, beaches, and people. He ultimately ended up choosing this option and we just paid for flights and meals. My sister let us use her car while we were there. There was SO much to do in San Diego, we couldn't even fit it in one trip! Some of our favorites were the San Diego Zoo, Old Town and Ocean Beach. We stayed for about 8 days and it was fantastic!
Giving him detailed options was not only fun for him but for me as well! I am a "planner" and it genuinely made me happy to make it.
