If you want to become a parent, it's smart to learn ahead the 5 parenting styles according to psych 101:
Authoritarian (dictator)
Authoritative (rules keep you safe, behaved)
Permissive (trying to be friends not parent)
Neglectful (get help, high ACES, call CPS)
Responsive (co-regulation leads to self-regulation; includes attachment parenting)
Begin by identifying which type your own caregivers were, then identify which type your support circle or friends value. Get with your partner and choose your parenting values because it's not just about religions or holidays. Socioemotional learning begins with parents day 1 and continues all the way until age 26 when the prefrontal cortex is finally fully developed. After that, emotional intelligence is a personal growth mindset to intentionally develop.
